Here are three words to ponder (because one has to start somewhere):
- Inquiry: Close examination, a search for truth or information
- Organization: Creating logic from chaos
- Writing: Use of language to express truth or information
At its best, writing is the organized expression of inquiry, of self, a creative process, learning in action. At its worst, writing is boring, unimaginative, and ignorant.
In truth, everyone writes (like it or not), but not everyone writes well.
Some encouragement (and the inspiration for this site): everyone can learn to write well. Writing is an expression of self, so as long as you are growing as a thinker and writing every day, you will produce better writing. It’s inevitable.
As a teacher of writing, I plan to share my ideas and resources with students and teachers alike. In addition, I would like to hear your thoughts and discuss writing with you:
What do you struggle with as a writer? What resources do you need to become a better writer? What fears do you have about college writing?
Here’s to beginnings.
Enjoy.
